About Ambaji

The census town of Ambaji is situated in the Danta taluka of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat. The town is famous for its legendary and chronological links with places of cultural inheritance. Ambaji also brags of excellent quality granite and marble mines. Ambaji is also known as the temple town of Gujarat because of the Ambaji temple which is an important Shakti Peeth of India.

Geography of Ambaji

Ambaji is positioned at 24.33 degrees in the north and 72.85 degrees in the east. The altitude of the town is 1570 ft or 480 m. Ambaji is encircled by the Aravali Hill Range. The Aravali Range (which precisely means the “Line of Peaks”) lies in the western India and proceeds roughly 800 kms in the north eastern direction across the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana as well as Delhi. Local people also call it as “Mewat Hills”. The town of Ambaji is also flanked by the borders of Abu road (in Rajasthan) and North Gujarat.

Demographics and Climate of Ambaji

According to the census in 2001, Ambaji’s populace was 13702. 47 percent of the total population belongs to females and 53 percent belongs to male population. The avg. literacy rate of Ambaji is 66 percent which is greater as compared to the national avg i.e. 59.5 percent, with 40 percent female literacy and 60 percent male literacy. The populace which belongs to the kids of age less than 6 years is about 14 percent.

Winter season experiences a freezing climate and the temperature range is from 10 to 36 degree Celsius. This is the best time for the tourists to visit Ambaji. Summers are humid and hot with temperature between 26 degree Celsius and 46 degree Celsius along with scorching winds.  During the monsoon time, Ambaji witnesses an average rainfall of 15-30 inches. At times Ambaji receives heavy showers as well. Since the town lies at an elevation of 480 meters, the climate remains pretty enjoyable all through the year.
